More often than not, the main cause of greasy hair is frequent washing. Yes, you heard right. Washing you hair at multiple intervals throughout the day is much more damaging than most people think. Your hair needs moisture to maintain is durable and lustrous nature, and what hair oil does is help lock this moisture in. When someone constantly washes their hair, it has little time to regenerate the oil which was just shed. Slowly and slowly, it begins to produce more oil in the time it does have to preserve some moisture. The problem is only compounded by shampoos which are rich in chemicals that help strip these same oils out. If you want to put a stop to this irritating cycle, shower no more than once per day and use a gentle shampoo like baby shampoo.
In some instances, there are few things you can do to combat a recurring "greasiness" in your hair. The glands that produce the oil or sebum mixture which was described above can become over-stimulated by your hormones. You may even have some genetic predispositions to this type of hair. Regardless, you can try to experiment with moisturizing products specifically designed to bring this type of problem under control. If there's anything to remember, its to be as gentle with your hair as possible. It is typically aggressive behavior (like washing with chemically-enriched shampoos) that causes oily hair in the first place.
